Our story
The Association was founded on May 31, 1998 with the name “SAGAL” (a term that in Somali means “aurora”) and has its registered office in Trieste in Piazza Dalmazia 1, where more than eighty of the 200 Somalis present in the FVG Region have long resided. To support the existing community, over time university professors and Italian friends have joined.
The Italo-Somali Cultural Association was founded with the aim of creating an inclusive and stimulating environment for the Somali community and for all those interested in Somali culture in Italy. With its registered office in Friuli Venezia Giulia in Trieste and a second operational office in Mogadishu, we actively work to:
- Promote cultural and artistic events
- Offer educational programs for youth and adults
- Support the integration of the Somali community in Italy
- Create opportunities for cultural and social exchange
